Thirty-Fourth Projection

[Now that the weather has cleared up, Shirou is outside and laying down on the grass, near the pond on the northern edge of town. After thinking for a while, he decides to muse a bit.]

You know...I've never had a mother figure before. I don't remember my birth mother. I had a father figure and a big sister figure, but that was all I had growing up. I used to try to ignore this day when it came, because there was no point in observing it and there was no point in dwelling on it.

So to finally get one now...it's strange. It just feels different. I'm eighteen years old -- though I guess I'm still seventeen back home -- and now I have someone who I should have had all my life.

Well, better late than never, I guess.

Hey, I sent you a package. Did you get it yet?

[Said package is a brand new umbrella. It's pure white, with silver trim, and it's high-quality.]

Yeah. Yeah, that's a really good way of putting it. My mother here was married to my father back home, so that helped. But we both really like each other, and that's the thing that really counts.

That's not what I'm talking about. Sometimes you can solve problems with words instead of blades. You can save a lot of problems with that.

Could I not appreciate the work she has done for both of her children..?

I'd agree. If you're connected, that's what counts. Minnie's from a different world than me but I just get the feeling how she treats me must be like having a mom.

That sounds great. I'm still trying to get to know my mother, but I hope one day I can claim I know better about what it's like to have a maternal figure.

[If he sounds a little grumpy, well the guy just trekked the last three days through that storm to finally reach the Violet (because he's semi-nuts and very convinced of his own strength) so it's probably understandable. Also, though he has the video option on, it's recording his surroundings, namely the entrance to the city, rather than his face.]

Is today some sort of occasion for reflecting on family matters in this world?

Okay, I guess I should have mentioned it. The second Sunday of May is observed as Mother's Day by...a huge chunk of the world. At least where I'm from.

You're wrong. I once got through to a person I was fighting against with my words.

[As Shirou talks, he might notice the sound of someone walking up next to him. Sakura stays silent while he records the video, and when he's finished, she takes a seat next to him. She's been a little mellower, since the incident with Kariya when they were trying to clean the city up, and today is no different.]

Is it bad? The feeling you have now?

[Looking over at her.]

No, it isn't. I don't think getting a mother would feel bad at all.

A day like that would be like a knife in the hearts of many of the children where I come from. A brutal reminder of what they've lost.

[Azeroth is not a nice place. Illidan's surprisingly offhand mention of this is interrupted by a Gible leaping into the video and latching onto his hand with its mouth.]

... Azzinoth, how many times do I have to tell you not to do that?

[Shirou is...just staring.]

Uh...well...

...Like I said. I didn't have a mother until recently, either.

[The video finally turns around as Illidan plucks the Gible off his hand almost casually, revealing a tall, muscular man with a blindfold on.]

I did, but I do not recall her. My brother and my childhood friend are all I remember.

[Shirou is surprised to see the blindfold, and finds himself wondering what it's about. Regardless, he can leave the gear on audio to conserve power.]

Oh. I'm actually in almost the same boat. For me, I can't remember my birth family at all. I just had an adoptive father and a girl who became a big sister figure.

Oh... [It's hard to understand, because she's never been in such a situation before. Only the reverse; taken away from her mother, instead of being reunited with her.]

I'm glad you have someone to celebrate the holiday with this year, senpai. Even if there's that strange feeling, it must be nice.

I can't say that I'm celebrating the holiday with her; we're in different cities right now. But I did send her a gift.

But at least you can talk to her! It's... not as good as seeing her in person, but at least you can see her and talk to her with our communication devices.

... Why can't you see go visit her, though? Is she too far away?

Well, sort of. She's in Goldenrod City right now. I'd blow most of the day just getting there.
