Saber, Lancer, I'm going to be leaving Goldenrod City for a little while. I'm flying out to New Bark Town to pick up Tohsaka and Sakura, and we might not come back here. If either of them are trainers, we'll probably go to Violet City first, then Azalea Town, then back to Goldenrod. But don't worry, we'll be back as soon as we can.

...Oh, and Saber, would you like to come?

[Suddenly, something blots out the sun for a few seconds. Overhead is a Charizard, which appears to be circling around for a landing. Suddenly, it decides to descend, then slows down as it reaches the ground, landing a little heavily. Its trainer then slides off its back. He's here for two girls, and he will find them.]

Yes. I... [She doesn't want to go into what happened. Not yet. It had taken several years, but she had come to terms with what happened... but it was still a fairly sensitive subject. So something... not as bad should be okay, right..?]

I was Rider's Master. [She waits a moment, to let that sink in.] But I didn't want to fight you or nee-san... so I gave up my right as a Master.

[Shirou stares. He's stunned. He had known that Shinji was a Master, and had wondered how it happened, because the Matou bloodline had supposedly weakened over the years.]

[She nods.]

It was thought to be bad to raise more than one successor... my family and nee-san's have been allies for a very long time, and since nii-san didn't have enough potential, grandfather offered to adopt me and train me in the Matou family's magecraft.

[Her voice is soft when she talks, and she avoids looking Shirou in the eye.]

There's a lot I still don't know about this world, so I'm not sure... but I found a book on breeding when I was going through my bag before. Raising Pokemon and helping them grow... [She smiles, leaning down again to scoop Dahlia up in her arms.] That sounds like fun.

Oh, so you're a breeder? There's actually a breeding center in Goldenrod City. They lost a lot of their workers, too, so I bet they'd appreciate another pair of hands.

Really? Maybe I'll check that out, if we stop by there...

But um... [She blushes.] For now... I-I'd like to stay with you. If you don't mind.

[A brief hesitation...then he smiles.]
