[Those of you in Azalea Town will have not seen Shirou -- or Rin -- all day. Come evening, you will find out why.]

To those who knew Rin Tohsaka: she disappeared again. She was sent back home.

People here sometimes disappear without rhyme or reason. Whenever they disappear, they go home. Sometimes they come back, sometimes they don't. If they do come back, they may or may not remember their last stay here. She's safe. She just isn't here.

Given the different...timeframes, I suppose you would call it - would you consider home for her, right now, to be "safe" in any way?

Yes. Fuyuki is peaceful right now, and school just let out for spring break. The new church official is a pretty decent guy, too.

I see. There was another family that was officiating for the church when I was last in Fuyuki City; the most recent was named Kotomine Risei. I was under the impression that, in the event of his demise

[He hesitates again. "In the event of"...? He's obviously misleading no one with that sort of prelude; however, he can't quite bring himself to -

these duties would be passed on to his son, Kotomine Kirei.

[A dark thought occurs to him then...it's not possible that Kirei...he can't have been slain as well, can he? His student - he had arranged for the odds to be in favor of Kirei's continued survival, this can't possibly...]

Has something happened to the latter to make him incapable of service?

I don't know the full story about the fourth. But something was wrong with the Grail, so it didn't really grant a wish and came back ten years later. Kirei Kotomine was the mediator, but he had a Servant of his own. He tried to kill

an ex-Master and got stabbed in the back by his own Servant for it.

[Tokiomi pauses before he responds; something like this...yes, it was to be expected, in some ways. Rin was still alive; so was Kirei. It logically followed that Kirei had won the Grail. He didn't like what he implied for his own fate, but for the time being, he would let it be.

He had, of course, begun drafting his own will before the fourth Grail War; the death of Father Risei had made him pull it back out.]

I understand. His tactics were entirely dishonorable, then?

Yes. He took advantage of a moment in which the former Master wasn't capable of self-defense. But his Servant had his own code of honor.

If the fifth Holy Grail War is anything like the fourth was, honorable tactics fell by the wayside early on.

Kotomine Kirei is

Kotomine Kirei was a strong person; clever and resourceful, skilled in many areas. A fast learner. If the fourth War taught him anything, I have no doubt it was how to survive.

While I'm disappointed in my student for resorting to such things...if I'm honest, I can't say that I'm surprised.

Pretty quick. But I held out as long as I could. He learned that pretty well. Some of the other things he did just to stay alive surprised me. I thought for sure Caster had killed him when she took control of the church.

Again, he always did show great resourcefulness.

You seem to know the outcome of the fourth Grail War, even if you don't know details. Am I to assume that Kirei was the victor?

[Again, it's the logical conclusion; at the same time, he needs to have it verified. He...simply does.]

There was no clear victor. The other remaining Master tried to destroy the Grail. Both Masters survived.

And who was this other remaining Master?

Saber's Master.
